Track 2 – WVHCA As if I Wasn’t Even There…

The caregiver-resident relationship is the cornerstone of the long-term care profession. A sound relationship enhances trust and encourages continuity of care, both of which contribute to resident health and well-being. A weak relationship can affect resident care negatively and places a professional or facility at a higher risk for complaints and even lawsuits. With the CMS RoP, “person-centered care” has be-come a major focus of the new survey process. CMS has instructed surveyors to refer more often to the “Psychosocial Negative Outcomes Guide.” Ms. Selman will provide surveyor guidance, as well as successful techniques and interventions to assure compliance for “person-centered care.”

Learning Objectives:
• Why is the caregiver relationship important?
• What are caregivers doing wrong?
• How can caregivers build a caring environment and improve relationships with residents?
